2016 – Photos and Video
The work Super! won the prize Assemblaggi Provvisori, a research on gender identity produced by the Cultural Association “Tenuta dello Scompiglio”. It has been and realized during a residency of two weeks. My project took place during a summer camp that the association organizes each summer in the woods of the estate. The boys and girls who attended the summer camp, during the weeks, organized a real village in the forest, made up of houses and activities useful to the community. Everything was built with simple materials such as bamboo sticks, ropes and cloths. For my project children have prepared a sewing workshop in the woods where they could design and realize costumes and disguises. Boys and girls then sewed to create the characters to identify with, in those weeks. Some have chosen to make clothes that represent professions and characters within “their village” in the woods: postwoman and postman, women and men nurses, blacksmiths etc. Others have worked on costumes for fantastic characters. Super! fa parte del progetto Femminile/Maschile, una ricerca sull’identità di genere. Il lavoro, vincitore del bando Assemblaggi Provvisori, è stato prodotto dall’Associazione Culturale “Tenuta dello Scompiglio” e realizzato durante una residenza. Il mio progetto si è inserito all’interno di un campo estivo che l’associazione organizza ogni estate nel bosco all’interno della tenuta. I bambini e le bambine che hanno partecipato al campo estivo, nel corso delle settimane hanno dato vita a un vero e proprio villaggio nel bosco, fatto di case e di attività utili alla comunità. Tutto è stato costruito con materiali semplici come canne di bambù, corde e stoffe. Per il mio progetto i bambini hanno allestito una sartoria nel bosco, nel loro “villaggio” in cui progettare e realizzare costumi e travestimenti. Bambini e bambine hanno cucito per realizzare i personaggi con cui identificarsi in quelle settimane. C’è chi ha scelto di realizzare abiti che rappresero mestieri e ruoli all’interno del villaggio nel bosco: postine e postini, infermiere e infermieri, fabbri etc. Altri invece hanno lavorato a costumi di personaggi fantastici. L’attenzione è stata posta in particolare al linguaggio che definisce e nomina le cose. Il lavoro è stato documentato da una serie fotografica e da un video.
